What are wood briquettes?

Croft Log wood briquettes are simply a man made log with properties and performance that exceed traditional firewood.

Our wood briquettes are more cost effective than good quality traditional kiln dried hardwood logs by on average £160 per tonne. Due to their high density and low moisture content they will also give you a higher heat output than good quality kiln dried hardwood logs (on average 1000kWh more per tonne).

Our briquettes are Ready to Burn certified which helps you, the consumer, to easily identify solid fuels that are legal to burn at home in compliance with the governments Air Quality Regulations.

How are Croft Log Briquettes made?

Our briquettes are made with 100% recycled, natural wood chip.  Unlike many other briquettes on the market we do not use any waste or by-products in the process.  This ensures that our briquettes are higher in calorific value and do not contain any toxins or substances such as glues which can be found in the likes of mdf wood which are detrimental to your health and appliance.  That is why many chimney sweeps and stove installers recommend Croft Logs because they burn so clean.

The manufacturing process is as follows (without giving away our secrets):

  1. The wood chip is dried to the relevant moisture level in our industrial drier.
  2. Once the chip is dried it is passed through a mill to reduce the size of particles
  3. The milled chipped is passed through our industry leading briquette press
  4. Under significant pressure the material squeezed to form a long wood briquette.
  5. The wood briquette which is around 25 metres long at this stage passes down our cooling line
  6. The wood briquette is then cut to the relevant size using our automatic saw
  7. The individual wood briquettes are then pushed into our shrink wrap and passed through our heat tunnel
  8. The pack of wood briquettes is checked by our quality control manager before being stacked onto a pallet.
  9. The pallets are wrapped and are ready to be shipped.

We make the process sound so easy but this is a result of many years of experience and fine tuning the process to make it more efficient.
